For this assignment Neil told in last lecture that we have to design and make job using molding and casting. I am going to mill Vigyan Ashram logo and fab lab logo in Modela machine and cast a mold and Hydrostone parts from it. For this I did following preparation: First I draw Vigyan Ashram logo in paint file. Then I save as this file into png format Then I have download logo and edit in Paint software and save file as .png. You need png file format to mill on modela machine. Download links to the logos are provided at the bottom.

Machine settings and milling procedure

I used modella MDX20 for this assignment and as per modules command I went through terminal /usr/local/bin/fab,
1) Then window appear on screen with format,process,program,GUI size(pixels)-400.

2) I select my format .png, process(Roland modela .rml) and click on program.So following window will appear on screen

In above window first we have to load img (.png) file from respective folder.So that img will appear on screen
After load png we have click on make path command,so img path will appear

Now select view type 'segment', type-3D rough,upside select bits for cutting (1/8) for engraving machine wax.I did all this adjust X-Y axis then following window appear

Now click on 'make.rml'so exactly upside you can see'send it' command click on that.

Above window will appear now click on 'begin milling' then modela MDX20 will start working, we can see engraving part in red lines.

I remove my machine wax from modela machine then

First Try

I used instamold for the silicone molding and Hydro stone powder for casting. But my mold not properly done its broken.

Second try

When my VA logo get failed while molding then I have tried for fab lab logo, I want to make fab lab logo in 'coin' form so I did same procedure for fab logo, then I give first print with 3D rough cut and second time with 3D finish cut.

I feel that wax with rubber solution and dry for 24hrs. then I get following mold (pictures from both sides of the mold).

Casting

Material required - Hydro-stone powder, water, pot, brush

I took all requird matrial then I mixed hydro stone powder with water and put that material in negative mold and dry that for 2hrs. so my casting is done as per below
